Greece Student Visa from Bangladesh 2027: Full Guide

Ask ten Bangladeshi students what the hardest part of a Greece student visa is, and most will say the same thing: "you have to go to Delhi." Half a dozen consultancy websites in Dhaka repeat it. It is not true — and believing it can cost you the intake.

This is our full guide to the Greece student visa from Bangladesh 2027 — where you actually submit, what it really costs in taka, how much money you need to show, and the one document rule that changed in 2025 and that almost nobody in the Bangladeshi market has updated for.

€400Minimum funds per month of study
৳10,200Courier fee to send your file to New Delhi
1.5 yrsMinimum passport validity for a D visa
1 yearPost-study job-search permit

Do you have to fly to New Delhi to apply for a Greece student visa?

No. The official Greek visa centre for Bangladesh states plainly that all Bangladeshi applicants should submit an application for Long Stay "D" visa only at the GVCW Visa Application Center in Dhaka. Biometrics — ten fingerprints and a digital photo — are taken at that centre too. Even the interview stage for family cases is described as happening at the Dhaka centre after an appointment.

What is true is that nobody in Dhaka decides your case. Greece has no visa-issuing embassy in Bangladesh. Your physical file is couriered across the border to the Embassy of Greece in New Delhi, which examines it, may call you for an interview, and issues or refuses the visa. Your passport then travels back to Dhaka. That round trip is why the centre tells applicants to add at least seven extra working days to any published processing time.

So the split is: submission and biometrics in Bangladesh, decision in India. That distinction matters, because it changes what you should plan for. You are not budgeting for an Indian visa and a flight to Delhi. You are budgeting for a courier fee and a longer calendar.

What does a Greece student visa actually cost a Bangladeshi student?

More than most competitor pages admit, because three separate charges stack on top of each other. The visa fee is only the first of them.

ChargeAmountIn takaRefundable?
Study "D" visa fee€90≈ ৳12,780No
GVCW service fee€30≈ ৳4,260No
Cross-border courierFixed BDT৳10,200No
Travel insurance (1 yr)VariesVariesDepends
Medical examinationVariesVariesNo
Core total€120 + fee≈ ৳27,240No

Two things to note. The €30 service fee is recalculated daily against the European Central Bank's euro–taka rate, so the taka figure you are quoted on the phone will not be the figure you pay at the counter. And the ৳10,200 courier is payable in cash at submission. Bring it in notes.

Verify before you pay. Taka conversions above use roughly ৳142 to the euro as at 3 September 2026 and are our estimate, not an official figure. Visa and service fees are set in euro and the centre states they may change without notice. Confirm the exact amount with the visa centre on the day you book.

How much money do you need to show for a Greece student visa?

The requirement is stated as a monthly figure, not a lump sum: proof of sufficient funds to cover living expenses equivalent to at least €400 per month during the period of studies. For a four-year bachelor's that is a very different sentence depending on how the Embassy chooses to read it, and this is exactly the kind of question that should be answered on your specific file rather than from a blog post.

Taken at face value, €400 a month is roughly ৳56,800 a month, or about ৳6.8 lakh for a twelve-month period. That is genuinely modest by European standards — lower than the Italy or Czech Republic thresholds Bangladeshi families are used to hearing about.

Separately, and this one catches people out, the study checklist asks for proof of payment of at least one-third of the tuition fees before the visa is decided. So a programme charging €6,000 a year means roughly €2,000 leaving your account before you know whether you are getting a visa. Budget for that as a real risk, not a formality.

Greece keeps public tuition low — but the affordable degrees are usually taught in Greek.

Does a Bangladeshi apostille work for Greece?

No — and this is the single most important fact in this guide.

Bangladesh joined the 1961 Hague Apostille Convention on 29 July 2024, and it entered into force on 30 March 2025. But under Article 12 of that Convention, an existing member state can object to a new member's accession, and twelve of them objected to Bangladesh. Greece objected on 21 January 2025. The Hellenic Republic's note is published on the HCCH status table in plain language.

The legal consequence is that the Convention never entered into force between Bangladesh and Greece. A Bangladeshi apostille sticker has no effect for Greek authorities. Your documents need the older, slower consular legalisation chain instead — Ministry of Foreign Affairs attestation in Dhaka, then legalisation by the Greek mission with jurisdiction.

Unconfirmed — confirm before acting. Because the published checklist contradicts itself, no honest guide can tell you with certainty which stamp the New Delhi Embassy will accept in 2027. Do not spend money on either route until the requirement is confirmed in writing for your file. This is precisely the sort of thing that has to be checked case by case.

How do you get admission to a Greek public university from Bangladesh?

Through a national quota run by the Greek Ministry of Education, not by writing to universities individually. Greek public universities admit non-Greek foreign nationals through a centralised electronic application — the μηχανογραφικό, or computerised form for aliens of non-Greek origin — and it is free of charge.

The Greek government's own service registry sets out how it works, and there are three details in it that Bangladeshi families almost never hear in advance.

1
Apply online in a fixed window. The form is submitted through the Ministry's platform at exams-foreigner.it.minedu.gov.gr, which is open only on specific announced dates each year. Miss the window and you wait a year.
2
Then courier paper to Athens. After submitting electronically you must print the form and the declaration, sign every page, and send them by courier to the Ministry of Education in Athens with your supporting documents by the stated deadline. The digital step alone is not an application.
3
Convert your HSC grade to a 20-point scale. Greece marks out of 20. A Bangladeshi HSC GPA on a 5.00 scale therefore needs a formal grade conversion certificate, issued by the Greek Ministry's Directorate for Diaspora Education or by the Education Coordinator at a Greek diplomatic mission abroad. This is not something you can calculate yourself.
4
Translate into Greek. Your certificate must be certified by the competent education authority in Bangladesh and submitted with an official Greek translation — Greek, not English.
5
Wait roughly two months. The registry gives an estimated processing time of two months, ending in a signed ministerial decision listing admitted candidates. Your admission is valid for one year.

Eligibility also has a genealogy condition that surprises people: to use this quota, neither you nor your parents may be of Greek origin, and you must have attended at least the last two years of secondary school abroad, full time. For a Bangladeshi student who completed HSC in Bangladesh, both conditions are normally satisfied.

Is Greece actually affordable for Bangladeshi students?

Honest answer: yes if you are willing to study in Greek, and much less so if you need English.

Greek-taught degrees at public universities are famously cheap — that is the reputation Greece trades on. But the English-taught undergraduate offering at public universities is small. The Study in Greece portal, which is the official national agency under the Ministry of Education, showcases just nine international bachelor's programmes, and four of those nine are medicine. The others are archaeology, economics and sustainable development, accounting and finance, applied philosophy, and creative writing.

RouteLanguageChoiceCost level
Public, Greek-taughtGreekWideLowest
Public, English-taught BAEnglishVery narrowMid–high
English-taught medicineEnglishSeveralHighest
Master's in EnglishEnglishBroadMid

Published fee ranges for English-taught programmes vary widely between sources — from around €1,500 a year at the low end to €15,000 for medicine — and no single figure covers the market. Master's programmes in English are where Greece is genuinely competitive for Bangladeshi students: the choice is far broader than at bachelor's level and the fees sit in a more reasonable band.

Tuition figures are indicative. Fees are set programme by programme and change annually. Always confirm the exact 2027 figure on the university's own admissions page before making any financial plan — and remember one-third of it may need to be paid before your visa is decided.

Can you work part-time and stay in Greece after graduation?

Yes to both, with limits. Greece's Migration Code — Law 5038/2023, in force since 1 January 2024 — allows holders of a study residence permit to take part-time work only, on terms set in the law, and recent amendments discuss a ceiling of twenty hours a week for certain student categories.

The bigger change is at the other end. Article 119 of the same law finally created a post-study route where none existed. A graduate holding a study residence permit can apply for a one-year residence permit to look for work or start a business matching the level of their completed studies. The application goes in at least thirty days before the study permit expires, and after three months you must show the authorities a real prospect of employment or a genuine business at the right level.

One practical point that trips people up: your national "D" visa is only the entry document. Greek rules require you to apply for a residence permit immediately after entering the country. Landing in Athens is not the end of the paperwork — it is the start of the second half.

What does the Greece student visa timeline look like for the 2027 intake?

The Greek academic year starts in the autumn, and the Ministry quota, the legalisation chain and the New Delhi courier loop all take real time. Working backwards is the only sane way to plan.

  • Shortlist programmes on the Ministry's official finder and confirm language of instruction and fees.
  • Start document legalisation early — the consular chain is slower than an apostille, and Greece will not accept the apostille.
  • Obtain the grade conversion certificate for your HSC and the official Greek translation.
  • Watch for the Ministry's announced application window and submit the electronic form.
  • Courier the signed printouts and supporting documents to Athens before the stated deadline.
  • On admission, get the university's direct communication to the Greek consular section — the checklist explicitly requires it.
  • Pay at least one-third of tuition and keep the receipt.
  • Renew your passport if it has under eighteen months left — a D visa file will not be accepted otherwise.
  • Get a police clearance certificate no more than three months old, MOFA-attested.
  • Buy travel insurance valid for the first year.
  • Book the GVCW appointment in Dhaka and bring the courier fee in cash.
  • Allow for the medical examination after the interview, and for the passport's round trip to New Delhi.
