Spain Student Visa from Bangladesh 2027: Complete Guide

Most students who walk into our office with a Europe plan have already accepted one painful assumption: that the real application happens in New Delhi. For Spain, it does not. The Embassy of Spain sits on Road 90, House 49, Gulshan 2 — a twenty-minute drive from most of Dhaka — and it decides Bangladeshi student files itself. That single fact changes the timeline, the cost and the risk of the whole plan.

Can Bangladeshi students really apply for a Spain student visa in Dhaka?

Yes — and this is the strongest practical argument for Spain over most of Europe. Spain's own visa documentation for Bangladesh puts the decision in Dhaka. The Embassy of Spain in Dhaka (Road 90, House 49, Gulshan 2, Dhaka 1212; [email protected]) publishes its own student checklists, and BLS International runs the Spain Visa Application Centre as the Embassy's outsourced collection partner.

Compare that with what we have documented on this blog for other European destinations. For the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Bulgaria, Estonia and Austria, a Bangladeshi degree student must physically travel to New Delhi to lodge the file — which means an Indian transit visa, flights, hotels and an appointment queue before the Spanish-style paperwork even begins. Spain removes that layer entirely.

⚠️ Why you will still find conflicting instructions online. Spain's Bangladesh-facing documents have not all been updated together. The Embassy's own long-stay SLU checklist still directs applicants to a BLS centre at Concord Niharika Tower in Banani with "no appointment needed", and we found that Banani address published with two different plot numbers, alongside a second helpline number on the short-stay sheet. The BLS FAQ above is the most recent and most specific statement for students, and it is the one we work to — but confirm your appointment on the phone before you travel to submit, and do not assume a walk-in will be accepted.

Which Spain student visa do you actually need — SSU or SLU?

Spain splits student visas by duration, and picking the wrong checklist is the most common self-inflicted wound we see. A three-year bachelor's or a one-year master's is always the long-stay route.

How much money do you need to show for a Spain student visa in 2027?

Spain does not publish a flat bank-balance figure. It ties the requirement to the IPREM — the Indicador Público de Renta de Efectos Múltiples — and a student must show 100% of the IPREM per month for the full period of stay. If accommodation is paid in advance and properly evidenced, the Spanish immigration rules drop that to 50% of the IPREM.

The IPREM is widely published at €600 per month for 2026, traced back to the 2023 state budget law (Ley 31/2022) and frozen since, because Spain has rolled its budget over rather than passing a new one. On that basis a twelve-month programme implies about €7,200.

Funds, 12 months7,200৳10,08,000
Visa fee90৳12,587
BLS service charge—৳2,402

The BDT figures use ৳140 per euro, a rate we derived from Spain's own published pair — BLS lists the national visa fee as BDT 12,587 while the Embassy checklist calls it €90. Use it as a planning rate only; your bank will give you the real one on the day.

Spain assesses the sponsor's finances, not just the student's balance — two years of income tax records are on the checklist.

Is Spain actually cheap for Bangladeshi students?

Only if you choose the right region — and this is the single biggest thing we see stated wrongly on Bangladeshi agency pages. Spain's public universities do not set one national price. Tuition is fixed per credit by each autonomous community's own fee decree, with a normal full-time year being 60 credits, and several communities charge non-EU students a multiple of the EU rate.

The practical effect is that "study in Spain cheaply" is a regional statement, not a national one. Andalusia, Galicia and the Canary Islands sit at the low end; Catalonia, Madrid and the Basque Country at the high end, with Madrid additionally applying penalty rates on repeat enrolments.

Rather than quote an average, here is one real, officially published example. The Universidad de Zaragoza publishes its 2026–2027 credit prices, approved by decree of the Government of Aragón, with a separate column for non-EU citizens. The gap is the part worth studying:

Subject groupEU rateNon-EU rateYear, non-EU
Lab-heavy (e.g. Medicine)€20.02€60.06≈ €3,604
Group 2 (e.g. Engineering)€19.83€59.49≈ €3,569
Group 3 (e.g. Business)€15.52€46.56≈ €2,794
Group 4 (e.g. Law, Arts)€13.10€39.30≈ €2,358

Two things jump out. A non-EU student pays almost exactly three times the EU rate per credit — so any guide quoting Spain's famously low public tuition without saying which column it is reading is quoting a price you will not be charged. And even at the non-EU rate, a full 60-credit year in a humanities or law programme lands around €2,358, roughly ৳3,30,000, which is still genuinely affordable by European standards.

This is Aragón's decree, not Spain's national price. We are giving you one sourced example so you can see the structure and the EU/non-EU multiple — not a figure to budget against. Each autonomous community sets its own per-credit prices and its own non-EU multiplier, and repeat enrolments cost sharply more everywhere (Zaragoza's fourth-attempt rate runs past €200 a credit). The number that governs your cost is the current official fee schedule of your university, in its community. Check that document — or let us check it against your shortlist — before you budget anything.

What documents does the Embassy of Spain in Dhaka demand from Bangladeshis?

Spain's long-stay student checklist is unusually specific about Bangladesh, and several items appear on no generic international guide. These are the ones that derail timelines:

  • Police Clearance Certificate issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs, with a photograph, legalised by MOFA and then translated into Spanish. Valid only if issued within the last year.
  • Health certificate from a Bangladeshi hospital stating you are not suffering from any disease with serious public health impact under the International Health Regulations 2005.
  • Marriage certificate and Nikah Nama from the registrar of marriage and divorce, in English and Bengali, if you are married.
  • Birth certificate issued by the registrar's office in English.
  • All certificates legalised by MOFA within six months of submission — one year for the police clearance — and then translated into Spanish.
  • Sworn Spanish translation of every document, by an authorised traductor autorizado, under Article 15 of Act 39/2015.
  • Health insurance from an insurer authorised to operate in Spain, covering the entire stay with Social Security-equivalent benefits and no limitations.

Two process notes worth planning around: the file must be A4, single-sided, unstapled and in checklist order, and the Embassy reserves the right to call you for a personal interview. The short-stay checklist quotes a minimum of fifteen working days to process; the long-stay one gives no timeframe at all.

Does Bangladesh's apostille work for Spain?

The Embassy of Spain in Dhaka answers this on its own consular pages, and the answer is more useful than most students expect. Its guidance on the Hague Apostille says that the apostille "is the exclusive competence of the authorities of the country issuing the document", and that documents apostilled by the authorities of the issuing country "do not require any additional procedure from the Consular Office, and may be presented directly in Spain."

Read that against two other facts and the picture becomes clear. The 1961 Hague Apostille Convention entered into force for Bangladesh on 30 March 2025, and Spain did not lodge an objection to Bangladesh's accession — unlike Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Greece and Lithuania, which did. So a Bangladeshi public document carrying a valid apostille should need no Spanish consular step at all.

The alternative — the legalisation route — is the one the student checklists describe, and the Embassy publishes its terms. It legalises only original public documents already attested by MOFA, charges BDT 809 per document, and currently requires no prior appointment: documents go in between 11:00 and 12:00 Sunday to Thursday and come back between 14:00 and 15:00 on Wednesdays and Thursdays. The fee is paid in advance at Commercial Bank of Ceylon PLC, Hadi Tower, Gulshan 2, and the bank slip goes on top of the file.

One caveat before you skip MOFA legalisation. The Embassy's apostille page carries a 2022 date — it predates Bangladesh's March 2025 accession — and it states Spain's general rule rather than issuing a Bangladesh-specific notice. Meanwhile the student checklists still describe the MOFA-legalisation-plus-Spanish-translation route and make no mention of the apostille. The legal position looks settled in the apostille's favour, but the counter that receives your file is the one that decides. Ask the Embassy to confirm in writing which route it wants for your specific document set before you commit — and note that either way the sworn Spanish translation requirement does not go away.

How do Bangladeshi students get admission — and what is UNEDasiss?

For undergraduate entry, Spain adds a layer most Bangladeshi students have never heard of. Non-EU applicants with a foreign school qualification are generally assessed through UNEDasiss, a digital accreditation that Spanish universities use in bachelor's admission, often alongside PCE subject exams. Admission scores are commonly weighted 60/40 between school results and PCE performance.

Running parallel to that is homologación — official recognition of your HSC-level qualification — which should be started well ahead, because a volante acreditativo lets you apply while recognition is still in progress. For the 2026 cycle, ordinary UNEDasiss registration closed on 28 April 2026 with exams on 25–29 May, and an extraordinary round ran 1–22 July with exams 2–8 September.

2027 dates are not published yet — we re-checked in September 2026 and UNED had still not released the 2027 calendar. The windows above are the 2026 cycle, given so you can see the shape of the calendar. Treat them as a planning model, not as your deadlines, and confirm the 2027 dates on UNED's own site when they appear, usually towards the end of the preceding year. Note too that not every university requires UNEDasiss for every programme — check your specific course.
1
Shortlist programmes by region, not by university ranking — the regional fee decree decides what you pay.
2
Start homologación and, for undergraduate entry, register for UNEDasiss and any PCE exams.
3
Secure admission and pay enrolment — Spain wants the university's letter in Spanish and English, addressed to the Embassy, plus the bank receipt.
4
Only now begin MOFA legalisation (or the apostille, if the Embassy confirms it in writing for your set), then sworn Spanish translation, so the six-month clock works in your favour.
5
Arrange Spain-valid health insurance and accommodation evidence with an address on it.
6
Book your Embassy appointment on +880 1609 208089 (14:00–15:30) — students lodge at the Embassy, not the visa centre — then submit the SLU file in Dhaka.
7
On arrival, apply for your TIE residence card within 30 days.

Can you work while studying in Spain in 2027?

Yes, and Spain's rules here are now among the most generous in Europe. Under the immigration regulations approved by Royal Decree 1155/2024, in force since 20 May 2025, a student authorisation carries the right to work up to 30 hours per week with no separate work permit, provided the work does not interfere with studies. The authorisation can also be granted for the whole length of the programme instead of being renewed annually.

There is a catch that matters for Bangladesh specifically: this applies to higher and regulated education. Language-school students do not get automatic work rights. If an agency is selling you a Spanish language course on the promise that you can work 30 hours a week, that promise does not match the rule.

What happens after graduation — can you stay in Spain?

Spain offers a genuine post-study stay, and it is longer than most students expect. Graduates of an authorised Spanish higher education institution who reach at least EQF Level 6 — a bachelor's degree or above — may apply for a residence authorisation to seek employment or start a business for 24 months, non-extendable. You apply in the 60 days before your student permit expires, or within 90 days after, and the decision is due in 20 days, with administrative silence counting in your favour.

What does the Spain student visa cost from Bangladesh?

The visa fee itself is modest by European standards. BLS publishes the national visa fee as BDT 12,587 for all applicants aged six and above, alongside a BDT 2,402 BLS service charge, payable in cash — or at Standard Chartered's North Gulshan branch, per the Embassy's short-stay checklist, in which case you bring the original bank receipt. Ask when you book whether the service charge applies to a file lodged at the Embassy rather than at the visa centre; the published fee table does not separate the two cases.

Then budget for the items nobody advertises, because these are what actually move the total. Embassy legalisation runs BDT 809 per document, and a full student set is rarely fewer than eight or ten documents. Add sworn Spanish translation of that whole set, MOFA attestation before it, the Home Ministry police clearance, a Bangladeshi hospital health certificate, Spain-valid health insurance for the entire stay, and a complete one-sided A4 photocopy set. In our experience these quietly outweigh the visa fee several times over — which is also why the apostille question above is worth a phone call before you start paying per document.

What we see at Eduvisa is that Spain refusals rarely come from weak academics. They come from a sponsor's money that cannot be explained with a tax trail, a translation done by someone who is not a sworn translator, or a legalisation that went stale while the student waited for admission. Those are sequencing problems, and sequencing is exactly what a student cannot judge alone from a checklist.

Not sure whether Spain fits your budget and your documents?

The Spain decision really comes down to two questions: which region's fee decree you fall under, and whether your sponsor's paperwork can carry the funds requirement. Both are specific to you, and both are easy to get wrong on your own. Sit down with our team, bring your certificates and your sponsor's documents, and we will walk through it with you honestly — including telling you if Spain is the wrong fit.
