Czech Republic Student Visa from Bangladesh 2027: Full Guide

Every year a handful of Bangladeshi students discover the Czech Republic the same way: someone mentions that a degree taught in Czech at a public university costs nothing, they check the tuition page, and they cannot quite believe it. Then they try to book a visa appointment — and the real story starts. There is no Czech visa counter in Bangladesh. There is a mailbox in New Delhi that opens on five named days a year, and a computer that picks names out of it at random.

50applications per round, all purposes, five countries
115,810CZK funds for one academic year
2,500CZK consular fee ≈ ৳14,900
9months to find a job after you graduate

Where do Bangladeshi students apply for a Czech student visa?

In New Delhi. The Embassy of the Czech Republic in New Delhi covers Bangladesh, along with Nepal, Sri Lanka, the Maldives and Bhutan. The Czech Republic does keep an Honorary Consulate in Dhaka, and that is exactly where the confusion starts — several international study portals still tell Bangladeshi students to "book an appointment at the Embassy or Honorary Consulate in Bangladesh." You cannot. Honorary consulates do not accept long-term visa applications, and the application must be submitted in person.

This single fact reshapes the whole budget. Before you can hand in a Czech student visa application, you need an Indian visa, a flight or land crossing, and somewhere to stay in Delhi. The embassy knows it: its own appointment page says that because of the current situation in Bangladesh, appointments for Bangladeshi nationals are not assigned immediately but with one to two months' notice, specifically so applicants have time to arrange the visa they need to travel to India.

How does the New Delhi appointment lottery actually work?

It is a registration round by email, and it is unforgiving. The embassy publishes a small number of dates; on each of those days, between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. Indian time, you send one email to [email protected]. Anything outside that window is discarded. For 2026 the published dates were 4 May, 1 June, 7 July, 3 August and 7 September.

1
Subject line: passport number only. Nothing else — no "Re:", no "Fwd:", no name. A wrong subject line disqualifies the email.
2
Body: full name as printed in your passport, visa type and purpose of stay. Add spouse and children only if you are applying together.
3
Attach PDFs only — passport data page, and proof of the purpose of residence, which for a student is the university's confirmation of studies or confirmation of enrolment. Total attachments under 10 MB.
4
One applicant, one email. Sending twice — even from a different address — excludes you automatically. So does registering two students in one message.
5
Wait seven days. The embassy processes registrations electronically "based on a randomized element." No reply within seven days means you were not selected, and you try again on the next date.

Then comes the number that decides everything: 50. That is the total quota of applications accepted for a given period — for every purpose, from all five countries the embassy covers. At least 20 of those 50 are reserved for family reunification, and no more than 5 go to seasonal employment. Whatever is left is what students, researchers and everyone else share. Read that again before you commit money to an application cycle.

How much money must you show for a Czech student visa in 2027?

The Czech rule is a formula, not a round number. A long-term visa applicant must prove funds equal to 15 times the subsistence minimum, plus twice the subsistence minimum for every whole month of the intended stay after the first. The subsistence minimum has been CZK 3,130 per month since 1 January 2023.

The Czech student visa route from Bangladesh, start to finish — the appointment lottery comes before everything else.

There is a second route worth asking about. If you are applying for a study purpose under Section 64 of the Foreigners Act, a written commitment from a public authority or a legal entity covering your stay — or proof that the receiving institution covers your study costs — can substitute for part of the bank balance. Where the commitment falls short, you top up the difference, capped at six times the subsistence minimum. Scholarship holders under an international agreement can substitute the award decision entirely. Whether your particular offer letter qualifies is exactly the sort of thing worth checking before you freeze money in an account.

Why won't an apostille work for the Czech Republic?

This is the part that catches Bangladeshi families hardest, because it contradicts good news they have already heard. The 1961 Hague Apostille Convention entered into force for Bangladesh on 30 March 2025, and for most countries a single apostille from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs now replaces the old embassy legalisation chain. The Czech Republic is one of the countries that formally objected to Bangladesh's accession. Austria, Germany, Belgium and Finland objected too. Where a country objects, the Convention simply does not apply between it and Bangladesh — so your apostille is not recognised in Prague.

The Czech Embassy in New Delhi puts it in one line on its own consular page: for Bangladeshi documents, the Czech Republic recognises only attestation for the superlegalisation purpose. In practice that means your HSC certificate, marksheets, bachelor's transcripts and police clearance must be attested by Bangladesh's Ministry of Foreign Affairs first, and then superlegalised by the Czech Embassy in New Delhi.

Add to this the nostrification step: a foreign secondary certificate normally has to be recognised as equivalent before a Czech university will enrol you, usually by a regional authority, with a certified Czech translation attached. Bangladesh has no mutual-recognition agreement with Czechia, so this is a real procedure, not a formality — and it runs on top of, not instead of, superlegalisation.

How much does it cost to study in the Czech Republic?

Genuinely little, if you are willing to learn Czech. By law, higher education at Czech public and state institutions is free of charge for students of all nationalities when the programme is taught in Czech. That is not a scholarship or a waiver — it is the default. Programmes taught in English or another foreign language do carry fees, ranging from nothing up to about USD 22,350 a year depending on the institution and subject, with private universities setting their own prices. Medicine sits at the top of that range; most engineering, IT and business programmes sit far below it.

The catch is honest and worth stating: a Czech-taught degree means a year of language preparation before you can follow lectures, and that preparatory year is itself a recognised study purpose for the visa. It is cheaper than four years of English-language tuition almost everywhere, but it is a year of your life and it is hard. Most Bangladeshi students who ask us about Czechia are choosing between exactly these two paths, and the right answer depends on your age, your funding and how much time you can afford to spend.

Can you work while studying — and stay after you graduate?

Yes to both, with conditions. Third-country students enrolled in the daily form of an accredited degree programme do not need a separate employment permit — the study status itself is the basis. What Czech law insists on is that your work must not contradict the purpose of your residence, which is study. There is no single clean weekly hour cap published on the Ministry's foreigner portal for this group, which is precisely why you should confirm your position with your faculty's international office rather than trusting a blog table.

After graduation the picture is clearer and quite generous. A graduate of an accredited Czech university programme can apply for a long-term residence permit for the purpose of seeking employment or starting a business. It runs for up to nine months, it cannot be extended, and while you hold it you have free access to the labour market — you can work, job-hunt or start a business without further permission. You must apply before your current permit expires, and the Ministry has 60 days to decide.

Verify before you act. The New Delhi appointment page carries an internal contradiction: it is marked as having expired on 23 May 2026 while still listing registration dates through 7 September 2026. The 2027 registration dates were not published at the time of writing. The subsistence minimum of CZK 3,130 dates from 1 January 2023 and is subject to revision. Student work-hour limits and the job-seeking permit fee are reported figures we could not pin to a single current government page. Confirm every date, fee and threshold directly with the Embassy of the Czech Republic in New Delhi and the Ministry of the Interior's foreigner portal before you spend money or book travel.

A note on scope. The Czech Republic is not currently one of the five countries Eduvisa processes. This guide is research we did for Bangladeshi students who keep asking about it — it is not a promise that we handle Czech applications today.

What goes wrong most often, in our experience?

At Eduvisa we see the same three failures repeat across every European destination that routes through a non-resident mission, and Czechia concentrates all three. The first is sequence: students collect the money before they have an admission letter, then discover the confirmation of enrolment is a required attachment on the registration email itself — no enrolment, no lottery entry. The second is document authentication: a family pays for apostilles because that is what worked for a cousin going to Italy, and the certificates come back unusable for Prague. The third is the refusal cliff. A rejected long-term visa carries no appeal — you can only request a new assessment of the reasons for not granting it. A rejected residence permit does allow a 15-day appeal. Knowing which of the two you applied for, before you are refused, changes what you can do next.
