France Student Visa From Bangladesh 2027: The Real Route

A student walks into an office in Bangladesh with a printout from a study-abroad blog. It says: create your Études en France account, book your VFS slot online, pay the €50 visa fee. All three instructions are wrong for a Bangladeshi passport holder — and the French government's own website is where you can prove it.

Is France actually affordable for a Bangladeshi student in 2027?

Yes — but less so than it was last year, and you need to understand exactly what changed. French public universities still charge a fraction of what British or Australian universities charge. The catch is that France has just tightened who gets the cheap rate.

Since 2019, non-EU students have paid "differentiated" tuition at public universities. Until now, universities could waive it freely, and many did. Decree No. 2026-385 of 19 May 2026 ended that. From the 2026–27 academic year, each institution may exempt at most 30% of its non-EU fee-payers, falling to 25% in 2027–28 and 20% after that. In practice, a Bangladeshi student starting in 2027 should budget for the full differentiated rate and treat any waiver as a bonus.

LevelNon-EU rateEU rateApprox. BDT
Licence (bachelor's)€2,902/yr€178/yr≈ ৳4,12,000
Master's€3,950/yr€255/yr≈ ৳5,61,000
DoctorateNot chargedNot charged—
Private grande école€10,000+/yr€10,000+/yr≈ ৳14,20,000+

Even at the full non-EU rate, a French public university master's at €3,950 is cheaper than one year of tuition almost anywhere in the UK. The French Ministry of Higher Education notes that the differentiated fee still represents less than a third of what the training actually costs — the State pays the rest. That subsidy is the real reason France belongs on a budget-conscious shortlist.

Two protections worth knowing: students who held a fee exemption in 2025–26 keep it until the end of that degree cycle, and anyone granted a 2026–27 exemption before 21 May 2026 keeps it too. If someone in your family is already studying in France on a waiver, their situation is not the one you will face.

Why is the France student visa from Bangladesh different from every other country?

Because Bangladesh is not covered by the Études en France (EEF) procedure. This single fact rewrites almost every step, and it is the thing generic international study sites get wrong most often.

France-Visas, the official French government visa portal, publishes the list of EEF countries. In Asia it names Myanmar, Cambodia, China, South Korea, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Nepal, Pakistan, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam. Bangladesh does not appear. India, Pakistan and Nepal are all on the list, which is precisely why advice written for the wider South Asian market misleads Bangladeshi students so reliably.

How much money do you need to show for a France student visa from Bangladesh?

From 1 August 2026, the threshold rose sharply. Applicants for a French long-stay student visa must now show at least €877.50 per month, up from €615 — an increase of about 43%. Campus France advised students to anticipate the change when planning their finances.

Over a twelve-month course that is €10,530, or roughly ৳15,00,000 at the mid-September 2026 rate of about ৳142 per euro. You must also show the funds cover the whole duration of your stay, not just the first term. Acceptable proof includes personal savings, a financial guarantor, or a scholarship award.

Student organising bank statements and visa documents for a France student visa application from Bangladesh
Three months of clean, well-explained bank statements do more for a French student file than a large last-minute deposit.

Verify this figure before you move money. The €877.50 threshold is reported by international education press and echoed by Campus France offices, but the Embassy of France in Dhaka is the only authority for what your file must show. Confirm the current amount with the Consular Section at [email protected] before instructing a bank. Taka conversions here are approximate and move daily; France also converts fees at the official "taux de chancellerie" rather than the market rate.

How do you apply — DAP for bachelor's, direct contact for master's?

Your level of study decides your route entirely, and mixing the two up costs an intake.

For first-year Licence (bachelor's): Campus France states that non-European students outside the EEF procedure must submit a Demande d'Admission Préalable — the DAP, known as the "white file" (dossier blanc). It goes to the cooperation and cultural action department of the French Embassy in your country of residence, and three universities assess your application at the same time. A separate yellow file covers architecture schools.

For master's and doctorate: there is no DAP. You contact each institution directly, follow its own admission process, and receive an admission document. Note one detail students miss — a doctorate applicant requests a talent passport visa, not a student visa.

Dated source warning. The DAP timetable published on the Campus France Bangladesh page still shows the 2022–23 cycle (registrations 1 October – 15 December, university responses by 31 March, student reply by 15 May). The page itself was last updated in January 2025. The shape of the calendar has been stable for years — open in the autumn, close in December — but treat the 2027 dates as unconfirmed and get them from Campus France Bangladesh directly.

What does the French Embassy in Dhaka actually ask you to do?

This is the part no international blog can tell you, because it exists only on the Bangladesh page of France-Visas and it does not resemble the process for any other Schengen country.

1
Secure your admission first. Via DAP for a first-year bachelor's, or directly with the institution for a master's.
2
Email Campus France Bangladesh. Write to [email protected] to arrange an appointment. The office sits inside the Alliance Française de Dhaka in Dhanmondi. There is no walk-in counter.
3
Wait to be contacted. The Embassy's cultural section, and then the visa section, email you with appointment times. Students cannot book online at VFS — that route is closed to you by design.
4
Sit two interviews. The first is with the Embassy's cultural attaché, who examines your academic background. The second is with the visa section. Most countries have one interview; Bangladesh has two.
5
Prepare your file on France-Visas and upload scans. Digitising your supporting documents in advance is explicitly encouraged and earns you a dedicated, faster counter on the day.
6
Attend in person and give biometrics. Fees are paid in taka, in cash or by bank card at the VFS centre.
7
Validate your VLS-TS after arrival. A long-stay visa acts as your residence permit but must be validated within three months of landing in France.

The VFS Global centre for France is at Rangs Z Square, Level 7, 118 Gulshan Avenue, Gulshan 2, open Sunday to Thursday, 08:30–16:00, and closed Friday and Saturday. Two small rules catch people out: no companions are allowed inside without prior written permission, and no electronic devices at all — no phone, no laptop, no power bank.

Can you work in France while studying — and stay on after you graduate?

Yes to both, within defined limits. France allows foreign students to work 964 hours per year, which the government describes as 60% of normal French working time. France-Visas is unusually blunt about what that means: part-time work "cannot be anything other than supplementary income" and will not cover your costs. Plan your finances as though the job does not exist.

Health cover is a genuine advantage. Affiliation to French social security is free and compulsory for every non-European student under 28, registered online at the national health insurance portal. It reimburses around 60% of medical costs, and a student mutuelle can top that up. Compare that with the private insurance premiums several other destinations require and the saving is substantial.

After graduation, France offers a route back. Students who have earned a qualification at least equivalent to a master's from a nationally accredited institution may apply for the "Recherche d'emploi / Création d'entreprise" long-stay visa to return and look for work or start a business — within four years of graduating. Four years is a generous window by international standards; most post-study routes expire in months.

  • Passport valid at least three months beyond your intended visa expiry, with two blank pages
  • Admission document from your French institution (or DAP outcome)
  • Proof of funds meeting the current monthly threshold, for the full duration
  • Accommodation proof — either a definitive address or a provisional one covering your first three months
  • Two ISO/IEC-format photographs, printed application form, dated and signed
  • One set of originals plus one clear photocopy set, ordered exactly as the checklist
  • Academic transcripts and certificates, apostilled
  • Visa fee in BDT — cash or bank card at the VFS centre

What do Bangladeshi students most often get wrong?

What we see at Eduvisa is that France files rarely fail on academics. They fail on sequence and on paperwork that was never adapted to a French reader.

The most common error is treating France like any other Schengen application — filling in a VFS booking form, getting no student slot, and losing weeks before realising the Embassy was supposed to contact them. The second is the funds file: a large sum that appears in an account three weeks before the interview raises more questions than a smaller, steady balance with a clear history. The third is document legalisation.

On that last point there is genuinely good news. The 1961 Apostille Convention entered into force for Bangladesh on 30 March 2025. Bangladeshi educational and civil documents can now carry a single apostille instead of the older chain of ministry and embassy attestations. It is faster and cheaper — but confirm with the Embassy which of your specific documents it will accept in apostilled form, because consular practice has not updated at the same pace everywhere.

Is France the right choice for you specifically?

France rewards a particular kind of applicant: someone with solid academics, a family able to show €10,530 cleanly and honestly, and the patience for a slower, interview-heavy, email-driven process. It is not the destination for a student who needs a fast turnaround or who is counting on part-time earnings to fund the degree.

Against that, you get a European degree at a state-subsidised price, free compulsory health cover, 964 legal working hours a year, and a four-year window to come back and build a career. Very few affordable destinations offer that combination.

Whether it fits your file — your grades, your funding source, your family's documentation, your intake timing — is not something a blog post can decide. That assessment needs someone to read your actual transcripts and bank statements.
